The 3 Phases of Mastering the Back Leg Coil + Video Breakdown

Welcome to Day 1 of the 5 Day Coil Challenge

I'm Coach Dan, one of the coaches from +PWR Training (@pluspwrtraining on social media)

Our goal at +PWR is to use our experience at the D1 and Professional level to help you reach your goals.

You'll get one short video a day over the next 5 days to help you learn to Master the Back Leg Coil.

So Let's dive into the back leg coil:

What are the 3 Phases of the Back Leg Coil?

1. The Hip Hinge

If you have no hip hinge in your swing, it can cause two major problems (and so can too much hip hinge, we'll get to that).

The two problems create adjustability and "space" issues.

Tune in tomorrow where we cover that in more detail and give you some things to work on it.

2. The Hip Coil

Once you've hip hinged correctly, now it's time to coil around the hip.

But there's a right way to do it and a wrong way to it (we'll cover more of that in day 3).

3. Holding the Ground

Ok, once you've learned how to hip hinge correctly, then you coiled around the back hip correctly, now it's time to make a forward move where you're holding the ground.

But how do you make a strong forward move? We see so many hitters get into trouble because they don't use the hip hinge and coil correctly to make their forward move.

More of that in Day 4, which should be a fun one.

Video Breakdown:

In this video, we break down the hip hinge, hip coil, and holding the ground from Michael Conforto and Jazz Chisholm

We can see how they hinge at the hip and get their chest over their toes as the initial move in their swing.

From there, they coil around that back hip. With Conforto, we saw how his front hip got closed into his forward move. With Jazz, we saw how his hip coil set up his direction in his swing.

They both do a great job at holding the ground through their forward move.

These were two really good examples of all three phases of the Back Leg Coil that we're gonna work on over the next 4 days.

What to expect over the next 4 days:

Now that we've done an overview of the coil and gone over the 3 phases of mastering it, we're going to go deep into each specific one over the next 4 days.

Tomorrow, we'll dive into the hip hinge; why its important, what makes a good hip hinge and a bad hip hinge, and then a drill that you can do to start mastering this phase of the move.

See you then!
